They come in many different shapes and sizes. From long to short, narrow to wide, with or without a bump—every nose is as individual as its owner. But if you are unhappy with the shape of your nose, there is something you can do about it.

Do you feel self-conscious, especially when photographed from the side? People affected by this feel uncomfortable, and some even withdraw and participate less in social life. This is because the nose is located in the middle of the face and cannot be easily covered or concealed with makeup like a pimple. Through plastic and aesthetic surgery, we can correct your unloved nose so that you feel comfortable in your own skin again. At the same time, we can also correct functional disorders such as a deviated septum if necessary.

Make an appointment now with specialist Joachim Münzberg at his practice to receive detailed advice about plastic surgery procedures. He is your specialist for aesthetic surgery with many years of experience. Upon request, we will be happy to show you before and after photos of rhinoplasties performed at our clinic. We also provide a before and after animation. This will give you a realistic impression of what a nose correction entails.

Here and in the “Frequently Asked Questions” section, you will find further information and a rough overview of nose surgery.

Nose Correction by specialist Dr. Münzberg

Nose correction, known in medicine as rhinoplasty, is one of the most commonly performed plastic surgeries in cosmetic surgery. We also frequently perform nose corrections at our clinic. That is why we have a specific and well-established procedure for aesthetic nose correction. Talk openly with Mr. Münzberg about your wishes and ideas for nose correction. Describe what you want as precisely as possible. He will then explain which changes are realistic and medically feasible.

During your first consultation, we will use a special computer program to create a simulation of your “new nose.” This will allow you to see what the results will look like before the operation. Using before and after images, we will customize the shape and size to your face for a harmonious and natural result.

What can be corrected on the nose?

The type of nose correction is also an indicator of individuality. Ideas about the ideal nose therefore vary from person to person. The following measures can be carried out as part of aesthetic nose corrections:

  • Nose tip (enlargement, reduction, elevation, lowering)
  • Bridge of the nose (removal of humps or crookedness)
  • Nostrils (widening or narrowing)
  • Nose width/shape (adjustment of the base of the nose)
  • Nostrils (change of shape)

Nose surgery is not always an aesthetic treatment

The desire for rhinoplasty can be based on aesthetic reasons (e.g., a hump on the nose, a nose that is too large or too wide) or functional reasons. Functional disorders include a deviated septum and enlarged turbinates. Both disorders can be corrected through surgery, which significantly improves nasal breathing. A severely deviated, deformed nasal septum prevents the sinuses from being properly ventilated through nasal breathing. In such cases, correction of the nasal septum is unavoidable. This malformation can be either congenital or caused by an accident (broken nose). Another possible consequence is enlargement of the turbinates, which can also impair nasal ventilation. If you have received this diagnosis from your ENT doctor, you can have this medically necessary procedure performed by us. Dr. Münzberg can bill the functional part directly to your health insurance company, as he is also approved by health insurance companies. You have the option of combining the medically necessary treatment with an aesthetic correction.

Nose Correction – harmonizing aesthetics and function

In the case of combined rhinoplasty, part of the costs are covered by health insurance if there is a deformity of the nasal septum or enlarged turbinates that require surgery to improve nasal breathing. A deviated septum can cause snoring and make it difficult to breathe through the nose. This can lead to headaches or nosebleeds. Both congenital and accident-related nasal deformities can now be corrected using standardized and new surgical techniques. Particular emphasis is placed on the use of the body's own tissue (e.g., nasal or ear cartilage). This allows both the internal and external nose to be corrected.

In septorhinoplasty, which is performed at the specialist clinic, we correct the nasal septum deformity, a nasal hump, and the cartilaginous and bony nasal framework. We also remove adhesions and reduce large turbinates. The surgeon has several options for correcting the anatomical disorder. The correction can be performed using a closed technique (access through the nostrils) or an open technique (minimal incision on the bridge of the nose). Dr. Münzberg uses non-absorbable suture material for the small external scar that results from rhinoplasty. Absorbable suture material often leads to increased and visible scarring after rhinoplasty.

Rhinoplasty – Special considerations for reduction

During a nose correction procedure aimed at reducing the size of a large nasal hump, the nasal bones are carefully broken. This procedure allows the bridge of the nose to be narrowed and given an aesthetic shape. After this procedure, it is important to wear a light external nasal splint, also known as a thermoplastic splint, for a period of two weeks. This splint supports the healing process and ensures that the nose retains its new shape.

In addition, the nose may become crooked due to a misalignment of the nasal septum. The etiology of this misalignment may be congenital or caused by trauma, such as a blow or injury. In such cases, during rhinoplasty, the nasal septum is moved back to its original position in the bony fork, known as the anterior superior nasal spine. This careful repositioning ensures that the nose not only looks aesthetically pleasing, but also regains its optimal functionality.

Whether it is an aesthetic adjustment or a functional correction, such a procedure requires precise planning and professional expertise. Patients considering rhinoplasty should only consult experienced specialists such as Dr. Münzberg to receive individual advice and care. This ensures that the result meets personal expectations and that health is always the top priority.

Here's what you need to keep in mind before and after your nose surgery:

Nose correction is performed either on an outpatient basis or as an inpatient procedure under general anesthesia. If you are admitted as an inpatient, you will recover in the modern facilities of the Private Clinic. Here, you will be cared for and looked after by medically trained and friendly nursing staff after your treatment. This allows you to recover from the procedure without any worries.

If you decide to undergo plastic and cosmetic facial surgery, you must note the following:

You must not take any blood-thinning medication, such as aspirin, for approximately two weeks prior to the nose surgery. You should also refrain from consuming alcohol and nicotine during this time. Inform your doctor during the consultation if you take medication regularly. It is important that you are well rested and in good health when you arrive for treatment.

The procedure: The plastic surgeon will use different surgical techniques depending on the type of rhinoplasty.

Depending on the technique and extent of the correction, the operation takes approximately 1.5 to 2.5 hours. To secure and stabilize the results of the operation, we mold a nasal cast (lightweight thermoplastic splint) from the outside and sew two silicone splints parallel to the nasal septum. In addition, we insert so-called nasal tamponades into the nostrils for 24 hours. These are removed after one day.

Aftercare is an indispensable part of the healing process of the nose. After the treatment, you must refrain from sporting activities, sunbathing, and visiting solariums for several weeks and sleep with your body in an elevated position. Otherwise, this can slow down the healing process and/or cause swelling. If necessary, you can cool your nose to reduce the swelling. Avoid blowing your nose.

Even if it is only slight pressure, you should refrain from wearing glasses for the next few weeks. Use contact lenses if possible.

You will see the first results after about 2–4 weeks.

Complete healing of the nose (small, minimal changes) can take up to 12 months after the operation.

Is the result natural?

Yes, because Dr. Münzberg focuses on natural aesthetics. The goal is not a “perfect” nose according to beauty ideals, but a nose that suits your face and personality. Your charisma should be preserved, not changed.

Your advantages with Dr. Münzberg:

  • Specialization in aesthetic and functional nose surgery
  • Years of experience in aesthetic and plastic surgery
  • Sensitive and honest consultation without pressure to undergo cosmetic procedures
  • State-of-the-art technology for precise results
  • Comprehensive care from the initial consultation to follow-up care
  • Natural results that emphasize your individuality.

Risks & Side Effects

Every operation carries certain risks—this also applies to rhinoplasty. However, with an experienced and meticulous specialist such as Dr. Münzberg, potential risks are reduced to a minimum. Temporary swelling or bruising may occur after the procedure, especially in the sensitive nasal area. This is completely normal and usually disappears on its own within a few weeks. In very rare cases, secondary bleeding or minor wound infections may occur. In isolated cases, changes to the cartilage or bone may be visible externally, or a small hole may develop in the nasal septum. However, such complications are extremely rare.

Overall, nose surgery—especially when performed by an experienced surgeon—is considered a safe and easily predictable procedure.

Does nose surgery hurt?

Pain after rhinoplasty is usually mild to moderate and easily treatable. Many patients report a feeling of tension or slight sensitivity to pressure rather than actual pain. In the first few days after the operation, you will be given painkillers if necessary, which provide reliable relief. Although personal pain perception varies from person to person, most patients find the healing process to be quite tolerable.

Costs and cost coverage

If there is a medical indication for dyspnea, health insurance companies currently often cover part of the costs for correction. The necessary examinations are carried out by Dr. Münzberg after a consultation in his practice. In some cases, the costs for medically necessary procedures are covered by health insurance companies as part of a combined nose correction.

You must bear the costs of a purely aesthetic procedure yourself.

Appointment for a personal consultation

Would you like to have your nose corrected? We recommend making an appointment at the practice of specialist Dr. Münzberg to plan the surgical procedure and assess your condition. During the personal consultation, you can express your wishes and ideas and ask any questions you may have about the operation.

Feel free to call us, send an email to info@dr-muenzberg.de, or use the contact form. You are also welcome to request free information material in advance. We look forward to hearing from you.

Using computer simulation software, the specialist clinic can work with the patient to determine the shape and size of the nose in advance, allowing them to see the expected results beforehand. In addition, a detailed consultation with the patient takes place before the rhinoplasty, during which the surgical techniques, the steps involved in the procedure, and the risks are explained.

Rhinoplasty can be performed not only for aesthetic reasons (such as a nasal hump, a nose that is too large or wide) but also for functional reasons. The nasal septum often exhibits such a severe deviation or deformity that the paranasal sinuses are no longer properly ventilated through nasal breathing. Furthermore, the turbinates may also enlarge due to poor ventilation, which can further restrict nasal airflow.

Of course, aesthetic rhinoplasty can be performed in combination with functional procedures, in which case part of the cost is covered by health insurance (e.g., in cases of a deviated septum or enlarged turbinates). Today, nasal deformities—whether congenital or acquired through an accident—can be corrected using standardized and innovative surgical techniques; particular emphasis is placed on using the patient’s own tissue (e.g., nasal cartilage or ear cartilage) for this purpose, if necessary.

In a procedure known as septorhinoplasty, the following are addressed: correction of the nasal septum, correction of a nasal hump, removal of adhesions, reduction of enlarged turbinates, and correction of the cartilaginous and bony nasal framework. When selecting suture material for the small external scar, I do not use absorbable sutures, as absorbable sutures often lead to increased and subsequently visible scarring.

When reducing and removing a large nasal hump, the nasal bones must also be fractured during the rhinoplasty to narrow the nasal bridge and restore an aesthetic shape. Subsequently, a lightweight external nasal splint (thermoplastic splint) must be worn for 2 weeks.

In rare cases, the nose is crooked because the nasal septum does not lie within the anterior, lower bony fork (spina nasalis anterior). This condition may be present from birth or may have resulted from injury or physical force. In this case, the nasal septum is repositioned back into the bony fork (repositioned).

The procedure can be performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis or as an inpatient in the hospital.

Postoperative care following rhinoplasty is provided on an outpatient basis. Nasal packing is generally not used. The sutures on the nasal bridge are removed one week after the procedure. The lightweight external nasal splint (thermoplastic splint) and the septal splints are removed after two weeks.

A septoplasty is a type of rhinoplasty performed for functional reasons. The nasal septum often deviates or is deformed to such an extent that the sinuses are no longer properly ventilated through nasal breathing. Furthermore, the nasal turbinates may also enlarge due to poor ventilation, which can further restrict nasal airflow.

During septoplasty at Dr. Münzberg’s specialist clinic, the nasal septum is often straightened and the posterior portion removed. For this reason, two silicone septal splints are inserted at the end of the operation and remain in place for two weeks.

In rare cases, the nose is crooked because the nasal septum does not lie within the anterior, lower bony fork (spina nasalis anterior). This condition may be present from birth or result from an injury or blow. In such cases, the nasal septum is repositioned (reposed) into the bony fork.

The procedure can be performed under general anesthesia on an outpatient basis or as an inpatient at the hospital.

With the amendments to the German Law on the Advertising of Medicinal Products that took effect in October 2012, the ban on comparative “before-and-after” images was somewhat “relaxed” (→ see the ruling of the Higher Regional Court of Celle; Case No. 13 U 160/12). The ban on before-and-after images now applies only to visual depictions that are abusive, repulsive, or misleading regarding changes to the human body resulting from diseases or injuries. Due to this rather broadly interpretable wording (when is a visual representation abusive, repulsive, or misleading?), specialist Dr. Münzberg continues to refrain from using before-and-after images on his website. However, you can view images of the successful outcomes of rhinoplasty procedures on-site in the clinic’s photo archive.

Dr. Münzberg’s clinic also adheres to the German Law on the Advertising of Medicinal Products when it comes to disclosing the prices of surgical procedures, as this law prohibits misleading advertising. Under the law, it could appear as though the outcome of a surgical procedure is for sale and that success is guaranteed. For this reason, the website does not list the costs of rhinoplasty.

You can inquire about prices directly via email or by phone.

If there is a medical indication, the costs of the surgery will be covered by health insurance. For this, written confirmation from the health insurance provider is required.
